37 Days

37 Days is a British drama miniseries consisting of three parts and covering the weeks preceding the First World War, starting with the assassination of the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip on the 28th of June 1914 which led to the invasion of the Kingdom of Serbia by the Austro-Hungarian empire and consequenty the British declaration of war on Germany two months later. 37 Days is part of the BBC World War I centenary season with the intent of disproving the popular belief that the Great War was inevitable, especially after the attack on the Archduke of Austria. Though slightly dramatised the miniseries has been praised on numerous occasions for its historical accuracy and the impressive performances of its actors, and the portrayal of Edward Grey by Ian McDiarmid in particular.
