One of the most remarkable innovators of silent film, Georges Méliès amazed early 20th century audiences with his stunning cinematic trickery and illusions. Made in 1902, A Trip to the Moon is one of Méliès' most celebrated films. Part sci-fi, part surrealist fantasy, the film tells the story of a troupe of astronomers who jettison themselves into space in order to examine the Moon from its surface.
