In this poignant love story, Dr. Alex Harvey and Laura Jesson, both middle-class suburbanites, keep meeting in the course of their regular routines and, from casual nods of recognition, move to an acquaintanceship which ripens into deep affection. Both are married and parents, but their meetings become brief, meaningful highlights in their weekly lives. Harvey arranges for a friend's apartment, in which they can spend time together, but his unexpected arrival shocks them into a realisation of what they have allowed to happen.
