Flying Miners is an Australian documentary-style television show that looks at the people at the heart of the Australian mining boom. As mining activities usually take place at sights in the wilderness, remote towns and other locations miles and miles away from home the miners working there are referred to as FIFO's, or Fly In Fly Out miners. Flying Miners focuses on the exceptional financial possibilities offered to people of all types by the mining industry, but it also shows the darker side of the coin. The FIFO's usually live in harsh conditions far away from home, and the isolation and loneliness can affect both the miners and their families back home in a profound way.
