Agnes wonders what Charles is really up to on the Eastbridge Estate and Mama tries her hand at matchmaking.
Mama visits the Easmon family and Valentine is no longer her favourite. Walter delivers an unorthodox sermon at church.

Agnes is introduced by a colleague to a Jamaican woman at work expecting that they'll get automatically on like a house on fire. Valentine overhears an insentive nickname Don uses for Kobna and is forced to confront him.
Season 1
Walter receives a letter from his mother telling him that his younger brother Valentine is coming from Sierra Leone to live with him. Valentine's arrival causes a stir and Walter's wife thinks he will be a bad influence.
Walter stumbles on a secret weapon in his struggle to resolve the factory strike. Bagpipes protests when Kirsty gets a job at the bookies.
Walter has been elected union rep at the factory just in time for delicate negotiations over job cuts. Valentine has moved out but is finding bachelor life not what he expected. Kirsty is trying to avoid an old flame.
Walter arranges an interview for Valentine at the factory where he works, while Bagpipes jumps at a chance to avoid his and Kirsty's anniversary night out.
Bagpipes helps Valentine get match fit for a trial with Leyton Orient, while Agnes and Kirsty discover that one of their elderly neighbours has died alone in his flat.

Bagpipes, Kirsty and the Eastbridge community are preparing for Melissa's adoption party at the Milton Arms when Walter is disturbed to discover that Bagpipes is estranged from his parents.

As the strike continues, money in the Easmon house is tight, so Agnes starts work for the local council but her first job is an eye-opener. Bagpipes joins Valentine on a road trip. Kobna gets a Saturday job at Don's garage.
Bagpipes makes a bold attempt to run Leon out of town. Agnes and Kobna step in to help when Valentine gets ripped off by a garage owner. The strike at the factory causes difficulties for everyone.
