Yi runs Breaking Dawn Tattoos where Jiayue is an apprentice - but they must keep this secret from her conventional and achievement-oriented father, and Yi’s aunty Ms Wang…
Veteran artist Aifei joins Breaking Dawn Tattoos. She is the coolest person ever, and lacking a female role model her entire life, Jiayue begs Aifei to teach her, but is rebuffed.
Living under the same roof again, Jiayue and Rong both find it hard to keep their secrets: Jiayue is surprised to learn about Rong’s new online friend, whereas Rong discovers Jiayue’s tattoo sketchbook.
At a family lunch, Jiayue is seated next to her ex-boyfriend Chao, who Rong has secretly invited. Rong is furious that Jiayue has not only dropped out of uni, but she’s also brought Aifei, a stranger with a ginormous dragon tattoo, to stay without his permission.
Jiayue tries to convince Rong to invest in her new tattoo studio, while Rong insists on Jiayue’s return to university. Their negotiations reach a deadlock, when Rong strikes a deal with Jiayue, attempting to make her life harder by forcing her to pay rent.
Jiayue finally musters courage to meet Ran at their former favourite park, while both Jiayue and Ran learn that they’ve become strangers in each other’s lives. A devastated Jiayue returns home, but is surprised when Ms. Wang and the aunties pay a visit to her sleepout that night.
With Aifei’s sudden departure and Yi’s wavering support, Jiayue struggles to keep her studio from failing. After an attempt to create buzz about their studio at the university campus, Jiayue becomes self-conscious, realising she has chosen a rather different path from her peers.
Jiayue says goodbye to her mother, but this time it is full of love; with Ms Wang and the aunties as unofficial mascots, Jiayue’s business is finally picking up - but Yi is missing from the celebrations.
