New Amsterdam is an American medical drama television series that was based on the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer. The series' cast includes Ryan Eggold (The Blacklist, 90210), Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who, Sense8), and Janet Montgomery (Human Target, The Hills Run Red). The series follows Eggold in his role as Dr. Max Goodwin, who is appointed medical director of one of the USA's oldest public hospitals with the goal of reforming the neglected facility. New Amsterdam quickly built a fan base following its launch in 2018 and besides a quick renewal for at least three additional seasons after the season two finale aired, their network NBC announced that a spin-off could be on the cards for the series.
