It's winter in 1943 and Italy is a country torn apart by years of brutal war. Martina is a disturbed young girl who has not spoken since the death of her brother several years earlier. However, when Martina's mother falls pregnant again, the heart-broken Martina finds reason for hope. But on the day her new brother is born, the SS start a violent round-up of the civilians in the area. Winner of the 2010 David di Donatello Award for Best Film.
