In this luxuriant, supernatural thriller set against the rich backdrop of 1930s Shanghai, Junchu, a talented young cinematographer, is forced to marry the hapless Sansan after his true love, Manli, is killed in a freak accident. When Sansan discovers a mysterious locked door in their attic, Junchu forbids her to enter. But her curiosity soon gets the better of her and upon discovering the contents of the room, Sansan is compelled to make a pact she will never forget. Winner of two Golden Horse Awards.
