Herbert Matter was a pioneering Swiss-born graphic artist, whose ground-breaking work in the 1930s, merging the photographic and graphic, transformed commercial and artistic environments of the time. Inspired by the Russian constructivists, Matter worked alongside Giacometti, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Robert Frank and Charles and Ray Eames, earning his place as part of a new group of stars of the modern art and design world.
