Dedication to a cause can be a powerful, life changing experience. For animal rights activists, their mission is to afford animals the same consideration as humans. They speak for a population that can’t speak for themselves.
Meet Brogan. She knew from a very young age that she just wanted to help. Now twenty‐three, she has been rescuing animals for four years. Her efforts began in New Orleans just after Hurricane Katrina where she slept in a tent and took from her school tuition fund to feed the rescues.
Currently, Brogan is an investigator for ARM (Animal Recovery Mission) in Miami, FL where the principle goal is to shut down illegal slaughter houses and black market meat trade. Her job regularly requires her to go undercover and even carry a weapon for safety. She lives almost an hour from where she works, doesn’t keep any bills in her name, and tries to live as off the grid as possible.
And unlike many animal activists, Brogan is not a vegetarian. While she rarely eats meat, she is always sure to know its direct source. Protecting animal rights is her job, but she tries to not let it take over her life completely.
In this episode Andrew will meet an activist who takes animal rights to the extreme. Would you leave the life you know, push the boundaries of the law, or sacrifice your own safety in an effort to rescue animals in distress? For someone this dedicated to the cause, no measure it too extreme.
