A tub drifts slowly through Århus harbor. Inside it is a newborn boy, dead of hypothermia and dehydration. Dicte decides to write up the story, which to her mind stinks to high heaven of Muslim fanaticism and family pressure. Wagner warns her against drawing hasty conclusions, but Dicte confidently follows her intuition. She is convinced they ought to be looking for a young immigrant woman who desperately tried to save her child’s life.
Dicte’s ex, Thorsten, drops by Dicte’s unannounced more and more often, and makes it quite clear that he wants to get back together. He even has plans to move to Århus. Which Dicte does everything she can to stop him from doing.
After repeatedly coming up short, Dicte has a Eureka moment. When the Muslim Community decides to bury the child, “Dagbladet” announces the event on its front page in the hope of luring the child’s mother out of hiding.
Following the funeral, and just as Dicte is ready to give up hope, a young woman turns up at the grave. Upon seeing Dicte, she makes a run for it, but Dicte follows her to an asylum center. Dicte tries to force her way into the asylum center to see the woman – convinced that the woman needs help. But she’s wrong. The woman is not the woman she’s looking for. When Dicte’s pregnant friend, Ida-Marie, starts having contractions, Dicte has to step up and be her birthing coach. Ida-Marie has a nagging feeling that something is going to happen to her son, but Dicte talks her down, and soon, Ida-Marie is asleep soundly in her bed, her newborn son beside her. But upon waking up, Ida-Marie finds the cot empty.
Dicte was broadcast on SBS ONE at Monday 6 March 2017, 13:00.
