Ethiopia - While Ethiopia has all the hallmarks of a mysterious, enchanting land of adventure, it has suffered from a disastrous image, and the only moment that has allowed the country to restore its reputation has been during the long-distance running events of the Olympic Games. Sport has thus become the most effective promotional tool of this tormented nation. Manuel Herrero begins his voyage with the 'Great Ethiopian Run', a race which brings together tens of thousands of Ethiopians, and later discovers the symbol that defines the identity of Ethiopian tribes in other, less well-known games. 'Donga' is a noteworthy example: a kind of primitive fencing with long sticks fought by men of the Surma tribe, or the 'Kwosso' game played by the Afars. He discovers a sporting side of Ethiopia which is rarely seen in the Western world. (From France and Ethiopia, in French) (Documentary) PG
