A middle-aged man drives around a quarry on the outskirts of Tehran. He gives a lift to a soldier and asks him for help. He explains that he wants to kill himself and shows the soldier the grave he has dug. He wants the soldier to return the next dayand call him. If he's still alive he'll come out and pay the soldier handsomely; but if he's dead the soldier is to shovel the dirt onto him bury him and take the money that will be in a bag. The soldier refuses. He makes the same proposal to a seminarian who also refuses. A taxidermist working in the nearby natural history museum agrees to do the job but in recalling his own attempted suicide argues that the beauty of nature is worth living for. The man does lie in his grave but it never becomes clear whether he has actually died.
