Informer 3838 is a spin-off of the Australian true-crime drama franchise Underbelly and several actors from the previous series reprise their roles for the spin-off. It focuses mainly on the story of Nicola Gobbo, an Australian former criminal defence lawyer turned registered police informant (codename: Informer 3838) after a series of drug charges while she was attending law school. Informer 3838 particularly focuses on Gobbo's involvement in the infamous Melbourne Gangland killings, series of 36 murders in the criminal underworld between 1998 and 2010 that caused a sustained power vacuum within Melbourne's criminal sector. Ella Scott Lynch (Love Child, Home & Away) plays the role of Nicola Gobbo with Gyton Grantley portraying convicted murderer and drug trafficker Carl Williams, the main witness and the man responsible for as much as ten of the 36 Melbourne Gangland murders.
