Neighbours is set in the fictional town of Erinsborough, in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Victoria, and initially focused on the lives of three befriended families, the Clarks, the Ramsays and the Robinsons. The show aired for the first time in 1985 and has since then become the longest-running Australian drama series. Neighbours was sold to more than sixty countries and was introduced into the Logies Hall of Fame in 2005. The popular program has been available since 2023. A total of 252 episodes have been broadcast, most recently in September 2024.

The actual real-life setting of all outdoor scenes since the show's debut in 1985 is Pin Oak Court, in Vermont South, a suburb of the Australian city of Melbourne. All the houses and gardens seen from the outside in the show are real and the residents allow filming to take place there when necessary. The indoor scenes are recorded at the Global Television studios in the neighbouring suburb of Forest Hill.
