Under global pandemic conditions, the 20th Vincent Lingiari Memorial Lecture departs from tradition to offer a new digital format and discussion panel in 2020. Hosted by Charles Darwin University, the lecture series honours and celebrates the legacy of the landmark walk-off at Wave Hill Station on 23 August 1966 led by Vincent Lingiari and the Gurindji people.
This year’s lecture, titled “Our Legacy of Activism, Advocacy and Calls to Action”, features two previous keynote speakers, Professor Dr Marcia Langton AO and Senator Patrick Dodson, along with acclaimed author of ‘Dark Emu’, Professor Bruce Pascoe.
Together with John Paul Janke (NITV Host) leading the discussion, these highly distinguished speakers reflect on the legacy of activism, advocacy and action from their unique perspectives that are informed by their life journeys, career paths and experiences. They call on the next generation of Indigenous advocates to promote and enhance their voice to make a difference.
Charles Darwin University presents this nationally significant Lecture series annually, which has become a part of the annual Gurindji Freedom Day Festival commemorating the ‘Wave Hill Walk-Off’.
Vincent Lingiari Memorial Lecture was broadcast on NITV at Monday 14 December 2020, 12:05.
