Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is an international game show for television based on the original British version of the format., originally made for the ITV network. In the quiz, contestants have to answer a series of multiple-choice questions as they compete for large cash prizes. One contestant plays at the time, there is no time limit per answer, and the amount of cash that can be won increases as more questions are answered correctly. In most formats, the maximum cash prize that can be won is one million of the local currency. Since the first episode of the hugely popular British version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? aired in 1998, the format has been exported to dozens of countries all over the world, including the United States, South Africa, and Russia. The original format in Australia aired for the first time in 1999 on the Nine Network and has been hosted by Australian radio and television presenter Eddie McGuire.
