Australian Superbike Championship

The Australian Superbike Championship, often abbreviated as ASBK, is an Australian national motorcycle racing championship that is organised annually by Motorcycling Australia, the official governing body for motorcycle racing in Australia. The first edition of the championship took place in 1980 and was promoted as a road race series for national riders that was open to all makes of production motorcycles. This was quite unique at the time, as it was the prestigious but expensive 500cc Grand Prix world championship that was motor racing’s ultimate showpiece in the eighties. Over the years, the Australian Superbike Championship has been managed by Motorcycling Australia in collaboration with various private clubs and promoters. As the format rapidly gained popularity, it became the perfect steppingstone for riders and teams to show themselves both nationally and internationally. As a perfect route from the junior racing programs to the elite Superbike class, the Australian Superbike Championship is a staple for motor racing fans all over the country.
