Great Canadian Railway Journeys is a travel documentary series produced by the BBC that aired on BBC Two. It is presented by British journalist and broadcaster Michael Portillo (Great Railway Journeys: From Granada to Salamanca, How To Kill a Human Being). The documentary was inspired by the 1899 Appleton's Guidebook to the railways of the United States and Canada. Portillo goes on to explore the historic Canadian railways described in the book and learns about the places along the way. The concept of Great Canadian Railway Journeys is quite simple: each first episode of a season features a starting place and each subsequent episode revolves around a certain trajectory by railway. These include wonderful journeys between places like Sainte-Anne de Beaupre to La Malbaie, and Vancouver Island to San Juan Island.
